Colin John Jordan

March 26, 1950 ~ August 12, 2017 (age 67) 67 Years Old
Colin John Mark Jordan, 67, passed away on August 12, 2017 in Signal Mountain, Tennessee. He was born on March 26, 1950 in Jamaica, Queens, New York.

He attended St. Joachim & Ann Catholic Grammar and Christ the King High School in Queens, New York, where he was an avid member of the track team. This started a lifelong passion for long distance running and he completed at least a dozen marathon races. In the early 1970s, he served in the National Guard protecting the Hudson River.

His career was spent helping people in emergency situations, starting as an ambulance driver and an EMT during the 1970s. He joined the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) forty years ago on August 13, 1977, and was a member of two fire companies, Engine 75 & Ladder 33 in the Bronx and Engine 37 & Ladder 40 in Manhattan. During his twenty-two-year career, he saved hundreds of lives and delivered children on multiple occasions. His ability to stay calm and focused during any emergency situation was praised by all he worked with. After September 11th, he returned to volunteer with the fire department, assisting with the search efforts for several weeks. In addition to his professional career with the FDNY, he was also a volunteer member of the Croton Falls and Putnam Lake Fire Departments in New York state.

Colin loved outdoor activities, including cross-country and downhill skiing, and dedicated several years as a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader in Signal Mountain. During the past year, he became a foster parent. Colin’s gift of storytelling could keep his audience captivated and in laughter for hours.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Audrey C. Jordan and John A. Jordan. He is survived by his wife Kathy Stilwill Jordan, five children, Matthew, Christopher, Reilly, Logan and Makenna, as well as two sisters, Denise (Paul) McFadden of Bayport, New York, and Corinne (Joel) Houston of Aiken, South Carolina, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
