Edward Lanier Brantly, 82, of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday, January 7, at a local hospital. Ed was born January 11, 1935, he grew up on Signal Mountain, attended Baylor, UTK, and graduated from Memphis State. He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He served two years in the Army, stationed primarily in Germany. Careers included manager of Arnold Palmer Golf Company, co-ownership of the Sports Page, and owner of Signal Package.

Ed was inducted into the Tennessee Golf Hall of Fame on September 23, 2002. He was an avid golfer winning Tennessee State Amateur Champion and Southern Amateur Champion in 1957, Low Amateur German Open 1959 and 1960, German Amateur Open in 1961. Ed played in the U.S. Open (Oakland Hills) and tied for 29th in 1961, won U.S. Open Oakmont in 1962. He was Tennessee State Amateur Champion in 1972, and Tennessee State Senior Amateur Champion in 1985, 1986, and 1989.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund Brook Brantly and Emma Head Norvell Brantly and Uncle and Aunt, Bill and Allene Norvell.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Bryn Vance-Brantly; daughters, Edie Marie Norvell Brantly and Ellen Sydnor (George); one grandson, Evan Daniel Lanier Brantly; brother, Dr. Edmund Brook Brantly, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 610 McCallie Ave. Rev. John Talbird will officiate. Interment will follow in Forest Hills cemetery. Visitation will be at 11:30 a.m. in Fox Hall before the service at the church. The family will also receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace.
