Walter E. Hawkins, lifelong resident of Signal Mountain, passed away peacefully at home after a short, yet courageous battle against cancer.
Walter retired from International Equipment Company after 28 years where he was a service technician. He loved meeting new people and never knew a stranger. He enjoyed listening to Blue Grass music on Friday nights at the Mountain Opry and always had a passion for racing cars. He had a love for life, family and was a devoted husband, father and PawPaw. He had a story for every situation and people naturally gravitated towards him.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Len and Willie Mae (Stone) Hawkins; brothers, Herman 'Pete' Hawkins, Joseph 'Buddy' Hawkins and Charles Hawkins and sisters, Barbara Watkins and Shirley Clingerman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Carol (McKnight): sons David (Andrea) Hawkins, Terry (Cheryl) Hawkins and daughter, Jessica Hawkins. Six grandsons, Alex, Will (Alden), Jake, Josh, Chaz and Nick Hawkins and granddaughters, Evie and Annabelle Wilson, and sister, Alma Henderson.
The family will receive friends 3:00pm – 8:00pm Saturday at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace. The funeral service will be 1:30pm Sunday in the Chapel with Minister Garry Woodside officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
