Veolia Webster Ledbetter, known to many as “Memaw,” passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021. Veolia was born November 28, 1933; she was 87 at the time of her passing. She was raised in the Signal Hill Community and was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Charles Ledbetter, son Scott Ledbetter, son-in-law Carl Seagle, siblings Mildred Stephens, Herbert Webster, Terry Webster and parents Jim and Callie Webster.
She is survived by her children: Vickie Seagle, Sandra (Richard) Cook, Mike (Susan) Ledbetter and Tim (Robin) Ledbetter all of Chattanooga. Memaw had nine grandchildren: Page Harrison of Harrison, Allison (Doug) Elkins of Lookout Mountain, Josh (Laura) Ledbetter of Ooltewah, Leigha (Lloyd) Montgomery of Knoxville, Jason Ledbetter of East Ridge, Todd (Vanessa) Ledbetter of East Ridge, Jeremy (Heather) Seagle of Harrison, Chad (Jessica) Ledbetter of Chattanooga and Jake (Vikki) Ledbetter of Chattanooga. In addition, she had 16 great-grandchildren: Grace Harrison, Caroline and Elizabeth Seagle, Millie, Mac, and Lydia Elkins, Leland and Charlotte Montgomery, Charlie and Ruby Ledbetter, Cooper and Grayson Ledbetter, Cameron, Wesley and Aubree Ledbetter and Allie Ledbetter. Memaw is also survived by siblings: Willene Simmons, Bonnie Sue Bodine, Joe Lee Webster, Meb (Paulette) Webster, Claude Webster and TK Webster.
Memaw had a long career in retail sales where she enjoyed meeting people and serving their needs, eventually retiring after many years in this industry. Her biggest joy was supporting anything her grandkids and great grandkids were involved in. She was an avid seamstress who loved making quilts, baby blankets and throws for friends and family.
The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to the many doctors, home health care nurses, Visiting Angels, Hearth Hospice and the Soddy Daisy Health Care Center for taking care of Memaw.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday October 6, 2021, at 2:00 pm in the Chattanooga Memorial Park with Reverend Bill Harvey officiating. Pallbearers will be her six grandsons: Josh, Jason, Jake, Todd and Chad Ledbetter and Jeremy Seagle.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm at the funeral home.
