Tim Davenport

March 28, 2022

Tribute

Timothy Garry "Tim" Davenport, 66, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away Monday, March 28, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marge Davenport, grandparents, Rev. James and Martha Davenport, Henry and Ella Lewis and brother Jim Davenport.

He is survived by his loving wife of 8 years, Mychelle Davenport; children: Paul Davenport of Leesburg, FL, Thomas Davenport, Jennifer Lamb and Stacy Heath, all of Chattanooga, TN; sister, Martha (John) Mabry of Chattanooga, TN; twin brother, Tom (Tammy) Davenport of Trenton, GA; grandchildren, Olivia & David Heath, Satchel Lamb and Greyson Davenport, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

Tim originally lived in Daisy, TN but moved to Red Bank as a toddler. He went through the Red Bank schools all 12 years, graduating in 1973 as a member of the wrestling, golf, and chess teams. He obtained his B.S. degree in Education from UT-Chattanooga, where participated in intramural wrestling and was awarded the top student in German. He coached wrestling and taught school in Sebring, Florida for 30 years. He was the WUSA Magazine National Assistant Wrestling Coach of the Year in 1988. He also officiated wrestling and umpired baseball while in Sebring. Upon retirement, he returned home to the Red Bank / Hixson area, and continued umpiring as well as teaching math & history.

A curious mind and fervent passion for helping others. Tim's favorite thing to do, when he was not umpiring baseball, was spending time in the pool. He was a loyal Tennessee Volunteer, Atlanta Brave and Nashville Predators fan. His passion for teaching and love of sports, umpiring and coaching, for 20+ years has been an inspiration to others. His ability to positively mentor those around him has left a lasting impact on future generations. Tim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed.

The family will be receiving friends Friday, April 1, 2022 from 4PM-7PM at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace followed by a service, with Rev. Jerry Yother officiating, at 7PM in the Coulter Chapel of the Lane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please, send donations to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or to any charity of your choice which specializes in helping others.
