Sarah Elizabeth McMillan

Sarah Elizabeth Hayes McMillan, 88, of Chattanooga went home to be with the Lord on Sunday May 3, 2020. She was born May 14, 1931 to Naomi and Lewis Hayes in East Chattanooga. Sarah was a 1949 graduate of Central High School where she acquired the nickname Blondie. Her first job after high school was working at Duff Brothers which is where she met the love of her life Jim. Sarah and Jim were married September 1, 1952. After working several more years she decided to stay home and be a full time wife and mother to Jimmy and Tim. After Jim’s retirement they were able to travel and live life to its fullest but there was nothing she liked better than a cup of coffee and watching her grandchildren have fun. The last six years of Sarah’s life were afflicted with dementia but like most people with this horrible disease it was unsuccessful taking the knowledge she had of the Bible and the words to her favorite hymns away. She spent the last four years of her life living with Jimmy and Mary where she was able to be loved on by her grandsons and great grandkids. Sarah was an early member of Red Bank Church of Christ and also attended Mountain Creek Church of Christ. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Naomi and Lewis Hayes, brothers Ed and Doyle Hayes, husband James F. McMillan and son David Timothy McMillan. She is survived by her son James F. McMillan, Jr (Mary), five grandchildren and many great grandchildren, brother, David, and sisters, Loraine and Diane. There will be no visitation and the family will have a private service at a later date.
