Sarah Lupher Bohrer

January 22, 1920 ~ March 8, 2020 (age 100)

Tribute

Chattanooga native, Sarah Lupher Bohrer, passed away quietly in her home on March 8, 2020. Sarah was born on January 22, 1920 to Harry and Kelly Lupher and was later joined by twins, Isabel and Harry. Sarah and Isabel moved to Washington D.C. during World War II to be near Harry, who lost his life in 1945 when his plane was shot down over Germany. It was there that Sarah met Lyle Bohrer, who served as a civilian engineer at the Naval Ordinance Laboratory. Lyle and Sarah were married on June 1, 1946 and made their home in Beaumont, Texas, where Lyle taught at Lamar Junior College- later to become Lamar University. During her Beaumont years Sarah managed a home and raised two children, John and Linda. She stayed busy supporting their many activities plus those of the Lamar faculty spouses and First United Methodist Church. Following Lyle’s death in 1990, Sarah moved back to Chattanooga and found a community of dear friends at Asbury Place retirement home, now Alexian Grove. Sarah was a member of First Centenary United Methodist Church where she was active in the music ministry and the Hodge Sunday School Class. Sarah recently celebrated her 100th birthday, which she had anticipated with great excitement. She enjoyed every minute of her party to the fullest as she engaged with family and friends from several phases of her life’s journey. In addition to her children, John and Linda, Sarah is survived by her sister, Isabel Lupher of Chattanooga; cousin Marvin E. Raulston of Ft. Walton Beach Florida; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Memorials may be made to the Organ Fund at First Centenary United Methodist Church or to any chosen charity. Services are to be announced. Arrangements entrusted to Lane Funeral Home – 601 Ashland Terrace Chattanooga, Tennessee 37415. (423) 877-3524 Lanefh.com
