Sara S Garrett

Sara Sheppard Garrett, 87, of Hixson, entered the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. She passed peacefully after a brief hospital stay. Sara was born on April 5, 1933, in Hartsville, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by oldest son, S. Norman Garrett, Jr., and late husband, Samuel N. Garrett, Sr. She is survived by: sons, Jeff (Vicki) Garrett of Heath, TX, Mark (Nita) Garrett of Hixson, grandchildren, Julie Garrett (Matthew) VanDolen of Dallas, TX, Justin (Melissa) Garrett of Heath, TX, and three great-grandsons, Maverick and Fisher Garrett, and Wyatt VanDolen. Sara was married to her high school sweetheart, Sam, in 1951, and celebrated 70 years together in September of this year, before Sam’s passing. Sara was known and loved by family and countless friends and was a member of Hixson First Baptist Church for 69 years. She worked from home as a hairdresser for many years and enjoyed selling antiques, along with Sam, at their annual Cabin in the Woods sale. She was personable, outgoing, multi-talented, and especially gifted as an artist. She loved painting, cooking, antiquing, estate sales and collecting. Mostly, she loved her husband, who was her best friend, caretaker and soulmate. Special thanks and recognition to Gina Reel, a tireless caregiver and special friend to Sara and Sam.
