Samuel Norman Garrett, Sr., 88, went to be with Jesus on Thursday evening, September 24, 2020. He passed peacefully at his home in Hixson, near his wife and family. Sam was born in Goodlettsville, Tennessee on March 19, 1932. Sam and his wife Sara moved to Chattanooga after graduation from Goodlettsville High School, in 1951, where he worked as a painter, sheet metal worker and insulator for Dupont Corporation for 35 years before retiring. Sam was known and loved by many as a kind and gentle man of Christian values and the highest integrity. He was a multi-talented master craftsman and loved wood-working, fishing, antiquing, the outdoors, Tennessee Heritage, sports, gardening, his beloved cat and serving his wife of 70 years. He was a faithful member of Hixson First Baptist Church for 69 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Annie (Stinson) Garrett, his brother, Bob Garrett and his oldest son Norman Garrett, who died in 1994 in a tractor accident. Sam is survived by his wife, Sara Garrett of Hixson, sons, Jeff (Vicki) Garrett of Dallas, TX, Mark (Nita) Garrett of Hixson, granddaughter, Julie (Matthew) Van Dolen of Dallas, TX, grandson, Justin (Melissa) Garrett of Heath, TX, great grandsons, Maverick and Fisher Garrett of Heath, TX and Wyatt Garrett Van Dolen of Dallas, TX, brother, Joseph Garrett of Jackson, Tennessee, dear friend and caregiver, Gina Reel of Dunlap, TN and numerous cousins from Middle Tennessee. Visitation will be Sunday, September 27, 2020 from 4-6 pm at Lane Funeral Home. (Please adhere to Covid-19 protocol) A private family graveside service will be held on Monday, September 28, 2020.
