Tribute

Sam Gennoe, affectionately known as “Poppy”, age 90, of Hixson, passed away at home on July 28, 2020. Sam was born December 30, 1929 in Decatur, TN to the late Herman and Lottie Gennoe. He graduated from Meigs County High School and from the University of Chattanooga with a degree in accounting. While attending UC, he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and a member of the wrestling team. Sam served in the Army during the Korean War where he was a forward observer and a marksman instructor. He served as the President of the Chattanooga Table Tennis Club and participated in the state and national competitions in the Senior Olympics table tennis team where he received many medals. He was a member of the Red Bank Church of Christ where he served as an elder for 20 years. He was currently the President of the River City Writer’s Club. Sam was preceded in death by daughter, Susan Gennoe, and grandson Sam Brady. He is survived by wife of 64 years, Barbara Kerr Gennoe, of Hixson, daughters, Jane (Sam) Boozer of Hixson and Joan (Craig) Brady of Red Bank, grandchildren, Evan (Rachel) Aldridge, Jenny (Matthew) Dillard, Jill (Zack) Dolberry and Jake Brady, great grandchildren, Connor Aldridge, Anniston Aldridge, Charlee Aldridge, Crew Dolberry, Chase Dillard, Ivy Dolberry and Brooks Dillard, brother in law Joe Kerr and niece Casey Kerr (Danny) McDevitt of Anchorage, Alaska. The family would like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga. Also, thank you so much to Clear Creek Church of Christ for the use of your church for Sam’s service. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 30 at the Clear Creek Church of Christ from 11 am – 1 pm with funeral to follow. Interment will be Tuesday, August 4 at 10:30 am at Chattanooga National Cemetery. We respectfully request that social distancing and all CDC Covid-19 measures be followed, masks will be required.
