Robert Merriam

Robert Rennell “Bob” Merriam, 92, of Signal Mountain passed away on May 3, 2021. Born in St. Louis, MO on April 12, 1929 the son of Arthur and Lucile Merriam. He is survived by wife of 67 years, Nancy Frey Merriam; four children, Gary (Barb) Merriam of Bloomington, IL, Steve (Dana) Merriam of Northridge, CA, Paul (Anne) Merriam of Ooltewah, TN and Julie (Murray) Hatcher of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren, Melissa Merriam (Chris) Miller, Bobby (Kristen) Adams, Courtney Merriam and Caitlin Hatcher; and five great-grandchildren. He moved from Bloomington, IL to Chattanooga in 1975 to own and operate Manpower franchise. After enjoying retirement starting in 1993 in Bonita Beach, FL, Bob and Nancy moved back to Chattanooga in 2005 and eventually to Alexian Village. After attending Clayton public schools and enlisting in the Marine Corps reserves (1951-52) he graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1953. Bob was past President of Downtown Sertoma Club and a member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church at 2:00pm on Saturday, May 8, 2021. Memorials may be made to Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, Alexian Scholarship Fund or The Caritas Fund.
