Richard A. Strauss Jr. passed away June 3, 2018 after a short illness. He was born September 27, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA. A graduate of Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga and Bellarmine College in Louisville, KY. He retired from a successful career in management with Sears, Roebuck and Co. and recently, the Salvation Army in Chattanooga. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by parents Richard A. Strauss and Clare Abplanalp Strauss; brother James Strauss and wife Mary Ann Farmer Strauss. He is survived by his wife, Toni Strauss; son Richard A. Strauss III (Kandi King), Sherman Oaks, CA; daughter Elizabeth Strauss Thibo (Jeff Miller), Atlanta; step-son John Lynch (Jennifer); step-daughter Teresa Lynch (Jerry); brother John Strauss (Martha), Indianapolis; sisters Clare Hetzler (Peter), Signal Mountain; Deborah O’Dwyer (Ronny), Denver; Gerry Strauss (Danny Aldridge), Richmond, VA; three grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and friends. Richard was a devout Catholic, and ardent fan of the University of Notre Dame football, NASCAR racing and - closest to his heart - his family. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 3 p.m. with nephew, Father Ronald R. O’Dwyer, Jr., S.J., and Father Charles Burton at St. Jude Catholic Church. Visitation to be held two hours before service at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace. Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery at a later date.
