Plessie Emmajean (Jean) Walker, 89, formerly from Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on December 8, 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee. Jean was born on February 20, 1931 in Clayton, Alabama to, the late, Comer L.and Corrine J. Tew. She enjoyed her lifelong devotion to Christ with memberships at Harrison United Methodist Church and Hixson First Baptist Church. She was a very social person, and as such, enjoyed many years working as a bank teller where she never met a stranger. Throughout her life, Jean lived in several cities; however, she always considered Chattanooga her home. Traveling to visit friends and relatives was one of her greatest joys. She cherished her role as the beloved “Mamaw”. Jean enjoyed reading, listening to music, dancing, playing Bingo and Mexican Train Dominoes. Jean is survived by her daughters Theresa Ragland of Nashville, TN and Charlene (Bill) Floyd of Houston, TX; son Chris (Susan) Mathis of Orlando, FL; stepdaughters Candace Barger of Signal Mountain, TN, and Barbara Harris of Chattanooga, TN, and stepson Gifford (Donna) Walker of Oak Ridge, TN; her sister Jackie Snead of Clayton, AL; ten grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. Jean was predeceased in death by her spouses, her parents and sister, Lane Lee as well as son-in-law, Kenneth Ragland. Many thanks to her wonderful caregivers at Encompass Hospice. The family will have a private service due to the current restrictions. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of Jean’s favorite charities.
