William Patrick Beaty “Pat”, 85, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024.
Pat was born on March 14, 1938 to James and Ruby Scott Beaty in Pennington Gap, Virginia . After Pat graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1956, he went on to graduate from the University of Chattanooga. His college career was interrupted by a life-altering car wreck in 1958. He had a 1 in a 1000 chance of survival. He returned to college a few years later. There he met his wife Myra Gravitt and they were married on December 21, 1964.
After graduating, he began a lifelong career in social work with the State of Tennessee, serving in Child Protective Services and Adult Protective Services. He spent his free time with family, at church, playing frisbee, eating oatmeal creme pies and doing crossword puzzles. Pat loved Jesus, loved to sing, loved his church family at Red Bank Presbyterian Church and was always a dedicated prayer warrior.
Pat was predeceased by his parents, James and Ruby Beaty; his siblings, Lee Beaty and Jeanne Dunn; and his wife, Myra.
He is survived by daughters Brooke Marsh and Amy Sherman, her husband David; grandchildren, Daniel Marsh and Dr. Heather Marsh; niece, Donna (Steve) Stapleton; nephew, James (Linda) Beaty; Bruce Marsh, and the Marsh/Stocksdale family.
Visitation will be at Lane Funeral Home Monday, March 18 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm and Tuesday, March 19 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. Services will be conducted by Rev. Eric Duble and will be held in the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 19 at 2:00 pm with the interment to follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
