Merle Dean Hulett, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away Tuesday evening, January 30, 2019, at his home in Chattanooga TN at the age of 88. Dean was born in Rothville, MO. He was a devout Christian and a member of the First Calvary Baptist Church of Chattanooga.
Dean was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army Airborne Infantry as a Parachutist. He was active duty for two years and then transferred to the USA Reserve for a total of eight years of honorable service. Dean worked in construction as an Ironworker and welder until he fell a second time, breaking both feet and ankles.
Dean is survived by two sisters: Delila “Lila” Scull of Bartlesville, OK and Rachel Farr of Stewartsville, MO; granddaughter, Darlene (Steve) Isaac; great-grandchildren: Brittany, Angelica and Samantha Gibson; great-great-grandchildren: Tequilla, Aiyanna, Jayceon, Zionna, Ryley and Kiley. He was married to Virginia Rose Sims Hulett, from October 9, 1953 until her death April 11, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Edward Hulett and Ethyl Burger Hulett; four brothers, Donald, Eldon, Floyd and Pearl Hulett; and four sisters, Rebecca “Dixie” Andries, Juanita Howe, Sylvia “Lee” Lebeck, Ethyl “Jean” Lang and infant sister Flora June Hulett.
Visitation is 11:00-1:00 with service at 1:00 pm Tuesday at Lane Funeral Home~Ashland Terrace with Pastor Jon Weaver officiating. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tunnel 2 Towers (www.tunnel2towers.org).
