Mary Louise Williams Pendergrass of Chattanooga, TN. known by “Louise” to her family and friends, passed away just under three weeks shy of her 94th birthday on Wednesday, May 10, 2017.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex; sister, Myrtle Lewis; and brother, Jim Williams.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald (wife Bernadette) and Larry Pendergrass (wife Linda); sister, Gail Hicks (husband Jerry); seven grandchildren: Therese, Brian, Carrie, Elisabeth, Joseph, Chip and Jason Pendergrass; and eleven great-grandchildren.
She lived most her entire life on the same plot of land where she was raised next to Shoal Creek at the foot of Signal Mountain, with a gorgeous view of the Tennessee River. She was married at the young age of 16, to her husband Rex whom she met in High School. She was a champion swimmer back in the day, and even swam the width of the TN River, on multiple occasions. Her Husband, Rex, often told friends that he met her in the middle of the TN River while she was swimming and he was fishing. She saw enough climatic change in that very river to have had the privilege of ice skating on it when it had completely frozen over in 1939.
She proudly worked for Cline Photo in Red Bank, TN developing photographs. She will always be remembered for her steadfast Christian faith, wonderful southern cooking, consistent green-thumb, beautiful handmade quilts, her amazing knowledge of family history, and undying devotion to her family.
The family will receive friends 12:00-4:00 pm on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace. Funeral service to follow at 4:00 pm on Saturday in the funeral home chapel.Private interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
