Martin R. Sampley, 85, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, May 8, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Martin R. Sampley, son of Rose Ann and William Thomas Sampley, was born Thursday, July 16, 1931,   He is a loving, devoted, husband of almost 38 years to Joyce Hunley Sampley and the father of three children, Deborah Raye Sampley of DeFuniak Springs, FL.; Julia Ellyn Sampley (deceased); and Martin Everett Sampley (deceased). Also has nine grandchildren: Scott, Alycia (Donnie), Adam, Michael (Holly), Joey, Mary Elizabeth, Danny, Jennifer and Deborah Susanne (deceased); great-grandchildren: Christian, Alexis, Georgia, Cory, Holli, Nikki, Samantha, Nicholas, Casey, Daniel, River, Jonathan, Martina, Liberty, Grace, Makayla, and Elijah; and great-great-granddaughter: Paislee Nicole

Martin was preceded in death by: Flora, William Andrew, Frances, Mary, Earnest, Helen, JV., and Lois.

He is also survived by brother: W.C. (Midge) Sampley; brother-in-law and wife, John and Diane Hunley of Asheville, NC; several nieces, nephews and other close relatives.

Family will receive friends 4:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Lane Funeral Home and 1:00-3:00 pm on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at White Oak Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or White Oak Baptist Church.

Funeral service for Martin will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Thursday at White Oak Baptist Church with Dr. Tony Wilson and Reverend Bill Harvey officiating.  Interment to follow to Chattanooga Memorial Park. Rick Hunley, John Hunley, Charlie Wilson, Justin Johnson, Tommy Dodd, Frank Shirley, Dale Tuder and Donnie Cuchens will serve as active pallbearers.
