Martha Powell

Martha Fann Powell, 89, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday morning, March 7, 2018, at home.
She was born and grew up in Woodbury, Tennessee, graduating in 1947 from Central High School, where her classmates elected her Miss Central High. She moved to Chattanooga upon her marriage and worked for many years at DuPont in the Personnel and Computer Data departments where she was called “Rusty”. She was a member of the Red Bank Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Friendship Class for 65 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lura and Herman Fann, and her husband of 61 years, Robert L. Powell.
Survivors include her son, Robert L. (Sheryl) Powell, Jr., daughter, Rhonda P. (Joel) Klein; grandson, Christopher (Erin) Harvey; granddaughters, Heather Guerin and Audrey C. (David) Griffin; four great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter and many beloved friends.
She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a woman of great faith, always an optimist and lifted other’s spirits with her encouraging words.
The family will receive friends 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday March 18, and a memorial service will be held from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Red Bank Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Jim Buttram officiating.
