Rev. Loren V. Watson, 96, of Chattanooga, died January 24, 2021 at home. A native of Chattanooga, he was born in West End Hospital on August 20, 1924. He was educated at Lookout Mountain Elementary School, Dickinson Junior High School, Chattanooga High School, Class of 1942 and the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, Class of 1948. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor of business administration. He graduated Columbia Theological Seminary, Class of 1959 with Master of Divinity. Mr. Watson was employed by the provident life and accident insurance company prior to becoming a Presbyterian minister, where he served churches in Virginia, Florida and South Carolina. He also served as field representative for insurance, annuities and relief of the Presbyterian Church in America. Loren was a veteran of World War II, having participated in the Rhineland Campaign in Germany with 102nd infantry division. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Bravery. He worshiped at the Hixson Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the adult choir, served several years on the Global Outreach committee and authored a column entitled, “Beyond Our Walls” for the church’s monthly newsletter “Hilltopper”. From time to time he taught Sunday school classes and preached the word. Mr. Watson was preceded in death by Lois Watson, wife of nearly seventy years. He is survived by daughter, Judith (Mr. Jemison) Bowers, sons, David R. Watson, of Hartford, AL, and James S. Watson, of West Columbia, SC, sister, Charlotte B. Watson, of Chattanooga, TN, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A private graveside service will be held 12:00pm Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
