Juanita Thornbury, 96, of Chattanooga, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, May 11, 2017. Born in Acworth, Georgia, she lived in locations in Georgia, Florida and Tennessee. She graduated from the Acworth, Georgia High School and then moved to East Point, Georgia where she lived until marrying R. C. Thornbury. She became a member of the Stuart Heights Baptist Church in 1965 and, until health prevented, served the Lord through teaching a Sunday Bible Class, visiting the elderly and in a variety of other capacities.
She was the mother of five children: Nancy Carlene Jones, William Raymond Thornbury and Carol Mae Hoodenpyle of Chattanooga and Nita Joanne Rankin of Charleston, Tennessee and Russell Lee Thornbury of Kathleen, Georgia.
Survivors include her children, ten grandsons; four granddaughters, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Flowers may be sent and/or a memorial commitment made to HaCoBACare Ministries care/of The Hamilton County Baptist Association. HaCoBACare is a benevolent organization staffed by volunteer lay people and serving the less fortunate of the city in a variety of ways.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace with The Reverend Gary Jared officiating. Burial will be 10:00 am Tuesday in Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Reverend Darrell Davenport conducting the committal services. Music arrangements will be by the Reverend Tony Carroll.
