Joseph Anthony "Tony" Neuhoff, Jr.

January 22, 1956 ~ May 17, 2023 (age 67) 67 Years Old

Tribute

Joseph Anthony “Tony” Neuhoff Jr. passed away suddenly on May 17, 2023 at the age of 67.
Born on January 22, 1956, he was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee. On April 19,
1997, Tony married the love of his life, Linda (Dant) Neuhoff. Their marriage was an inspiration
to many because of Tony’s ever-tender love for his bride. Together they shared 26 years on
Signal Mountain and raised two daughters, Caitlyn Sudkamp and Alyssa Clare (Jackson
Rogers) Neuhoff. As a devout Catholic and a loving dad and spouse, Tony valued faith and
family above all.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Clara (Meyer) Neuhoff and Herbert and
Aloyse (Alsobrook) Haile as well as his parents, Joseph and Mary Margaret (Haile) Neuhoff.
He is survived by his siblings John Patrick (Nancy) Neuhoff, Mary (David) Bush, Cecilia (Bill)
West, and Chris Neuhoff as well as his many nieces and nephews. Tony was deeply humbled to
be named godfather for two of those nephews, William Bush and Daniel Neuhoff, and was
devoted to their spiritual growth. Tony is survived also by his 18 additional brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law whom he counted as close family.
Tony graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1974 before attending Tennessee Tech
University in Cookeville and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Tony’s genuine love of people shaped his life’s work. A peer-recognized leader in the Addiction
and Recovery field since 1984, Tony offered expertise as a therapist in treatment of behavioral
problems and dysfunctions in persons with chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders.
He was skilled at diffusing crisis situations and engaging patients to make successful changes.
He exhibited a heart-felt care for those experiencing trauma and stress, dedicating himself to
co-workers and clients alike at each healing center where he worked.
Most recently, he was a founder and the lead therapist at Brooks Healing Center in Normandy,
Tennessee, following a 35-year career at H.C.A. Parkridge Valley Hospital in Chattanooga. He
previously owned and operated Chattanooga Aftercare and worked as primary therapist at The
Crossroads, Addiction Recovery of Chattanooga, and Parkview Treatment Center.
He was a Level I National Certified Addiction Counselor, Level II Tennessee Licensed Alcohol
and Drug Abuse Counselor, and Certified Crisis Intervener. Tony trained with the National
Association of Drug Court Professionals and was a team member of the Hamilton County
Recovery Court for eight years. He was an active member of the Southeast Tennessee Alcohol
and Drug Abuse Counselors Association, serving as president and treasurer for multiple years,
and a member of the Hamilton County Alcohol and Drug Subcommittee. He was very active in
promoting Alcoholics Anonymous in the community and believed whole-heartedly in the
incredible value in the A.A. healing process.
He obtained numerous awards and achievements throughout his career including the
S.E.T.A.A.D.A.C. Lifetime Achievement Award, H.C.A. Frist Humanitarian Award, and Parkridge
Valley Hospital Employee Excellence Award. He was recognized as a Who’s Who Accomplished
Addiction Services Professional and S.E.T.A.A.D.A.C. Counselor of the Year.
Tony followed his father’s sentiment to “never, never give up.” His determination and strength,
coupled with his deep spirituality, brought hope and healing to multiple generations. With
eye-rolling humor and persistent phone calls, he empowered people to overcome their
addictions. He transformed thousands of lives through his compassion, his uncanny intuition,
and the generous gift of his time. He was kind. He was inspiring. It seems everyone knew his
name, but Tony accepted no credit, always saying he was doing “God’s work.”
Tony enjoyed painting rocks, wood burning cutting boards, and bringing flowers to his wife and
daughters. He wrote long - often rhyming - postcards and letters for even the smallest
occasions. He was known for his great poems and silly jokes, his stories and his humor, his
unique gifts, Daddy Days with his daughters, long walks with Linda, golfing with classmates, and
time spent with friends and family.
Tony attended Saint Augustine Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus
for 37 years and served as Grand Knight while at Saint Augustine.
The family will receive visitors at Saint Augustine Catholic Church at 1716 Anderson Pike in
Signal Mountain, Tennessee on Sunday June 11, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, concluding with a
rosary service at 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Father
John Dowling at 11:00 am Monday June 12, with calling one hour prior to the service. Interment
will be at Saint Augustine Columbarium following the Mass.
