Tribute

John Phillip Williams Jr., born October 14, 1937, unexpectedly passed away at his Signal Mountain home on July 1, 2020. He spent his youth with his parents John and Kathleen Williams in Knoxville, before continuing his education at Kentucky Military Institute with his younger brother Jim. From there, he attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where he graduated with a degree in accounting, met, and later married the love of his life, Nancy Standifer Williams. Together they built a life that included work in Chattanooga and later Washington, DC, where he used his CPA to become a partner with Arthur Andersen. With the addition of two kids and two dogs, they moved back to Chattanooga to be closer to family and for John to start a career with Thompson, Rogers, and Williams. John had a strong faith and loved being a part of Signal Crest United Methodist Church, where both daughters were married. He was a big believer in giving of his time and treasure, volunteering over ten years at McKamey Animal Shelter. In addition, he served as a volunteer at Signal Mountain Library, Big Brothers and Sisters, and countless other organizations. He also enjoyed golf and traveling, looking forward to the next big adventure. The day before he passed, he celebrated 34 years of sobriety, bringing hope for those that struggle with addiction and generating tremendous pride and respect from his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy, his brother Dr. James R. Williams, his daughters Lee Glascock (Battle), Laura Pierce (Todd), and four grandchildren: Emily and Battle Glascock, and Will and Anna Claire Pierce. With concerns for others regarding Covid-19, the service will be limited to family only at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Signal Crest United Methodist Church, McKamey Animal Shelter, or the charity of your choice. More than that, we ask that you consider the following, “Do all the good you can do. Don’t tell anyone. Just do good.” Arrangements entrusted to Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, TN 37415 www.lanefh.com 423-877-3524
