Joan Lynette Ellis

Joan L. Crawford Ellis, 85, of Chattanooga, died peacefully in her home with her devoted husband, James L. Ellis, by her side. Joan was born in Maryville, Tennessee and was a resident of Chattanooga since 1955. She graduated from Everett high School, then moved to Chattanooga in 1955 where she met her husband, Jim. Jim and Joan married in 1962 and had 59 wonderful years together. Joan was a member of the First Baptist Church. She loved her Sunday school class, the Mary's class, which she was secretary for 30 years. She worked for Gilman paint until her husband opened his beauty salon, Ellis Coiffures, and she was the bookkeeper there for 28 years. Joan loved her family, all animals, and enjoyed cooking. Joan being a record keeper, had a photo album by date recording her life with her husband. Joan was preceded in death by her father, Morris Crawford; mother, Ethel Brown; brother, Leonard Crawford; and sister, Marjorie Ogle. Joan is survived by her husband, James L. Ellis; brother, Richard (Margaret) Crawford of Maryville and several nieces and nephews. Everybody loved Joan, and she will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or Alzheimer's Association. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2021 from 12-1pm a funeral service to follow at 1:00pm in the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
