July 14, 1937 ~ April 16, 2021 (age 83)

Tribute

JoAnne Elizabeth Arwood Swisher "Jody", 83, died at home on April 16, 2021 after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Oscar Alfred Arwood and Sylvia Indiana Hampton and was born in Bradley County, TN on July 14, 1937. She was a member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder and was a Stephen Minister and a long-time member of the Discussion Sunday School Class. She was one of the founding members of the Rivermont Readers Book Club and volunteered with community adult literacy organizations. She particularly loved reading with elementary school students. Family and friends remember her dearly as a loving, witty, independent soul who could be counted on to speak her mind. She was devoted to her family and friends and will be deeply missed. Loved ones were able to gather with Jody in love and celebration during her last days. Without the grace and caring of Hospice of Chattanooga, this would not have been possible. The Family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Erin, Faedra and Pamela. She is survived by husband of 60 years, Richard Olin Swisher, Jr.; children, Donna Kathryn (David) Smith, Samuel Olin (Lucretia) Swisher and Margaret Elizabeth (David) Clark; and grandchildren, Wright and Michael Smith; Anna and Jacob Swisher; and Fiona Clark. In addition, she leaves behind siblings Glenda Faye, James Mitchell (Lynn) and Kenneth (Pat) Marshall Arwood. A private service will be held followed by internment in Chattanooga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Northside Neighborhood House Literacy Program, 211 Minor Street, 37405 (NNHouse.org) or Rivermont Presbyterian Church, 3319 Hixson Pike, 37415. Arrangements entrusted to Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, TN 37415 www.lanefh.com (423)877-3524
