Jerry Warren Harper, Sr., 94, died peacefully November 22, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by parents C. Marvin Harper and Marion Harper; sister Francis Murphy; brother Marvin Harper.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jane Tolley Harper; daughters Mary (Jim) Bach, Peggy (John) Myers; sons Jerry Harper, Jr. (Jeannie), Lee Harper (Jane), and Tommy Harper; seven grandchildren Jamie Bach (Courtney), Christopher Bach, Kate Myers, Evan Myers (Hannah), Lee Harper, Jr. (Amber), Natalie Harper, Dan Harper; one great grandchild Sadie Myers; Niece Susan Sutton; Nephew Marvin Harper, Jr.; many family and friends.

Jerry loved a good time and especially a practical joke. He often ended visits with his grandchildren with the phrase “Glad you got to see me!”. When asked the secret to a long life, he responded “Gin martinis”.

Jerry served in the Pacific in the Navy in WWII. He graduated from UTK and retired from a management position at Combustion Engineering. He was president of Hamilton County Kappa Sigma Alumni Association; president of the Council of Alcohol and Drug Abuse (CADAS); and volunteered at the Chattanooga Community Kitchen.

Jerry was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 27 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Memorial contributions may be made to CADAS at 207 Spears Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37405; the Chattanooga Community Kitchen at 727 E 11th St, Chattanooga, TN 37403; or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 305 W. 7th Street, Chattanooga, TN 37402.
