Jean Kerr Morris, of Signal Mountain, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019. She was 73 years old.
Jean was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area. She grew up in Red Bank and graduated from Red Bank High School in 1964 as the Salutatorian. Jean served on the Teen Board at Miller Brothers Department Store and was voted Most Friendly at Red Bank High School. She attended Abilene Christian University for two years before returning to Tennessee and graduating from the University of Tennessee in 1968. Jean taught for several years at City High School before focusing her attention and energy on raising her two children.

Jean was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in her 30s and suffered greatly as her condition deteriorated rapidly. She moved to the Alexian Healthcare facility on Signal Mountain in 1987 and lived there the rest of her life. Despite her health challenges, Jean was a strong woman who had an amazing ability to focus on the positives in life. Her Faith was always strong and steadfast. Jean always advised her friends that ‘Happiness is a Choice’, and she exemplified that saying her entire life. Her attitude and her Faith served as an inspiration to her Family and to her Community. Jean was a loving and caring mother, sister, daughter, and friend, and she will be missed by many.

Jean was preceded in death by her mother and father, Fred and Lura Lee Kerr, and her identical twin sister Jane Wall. She is survived by her daughter Laura Morris of New York, NY, her son Tim Morris and wife Susan of Lake Bluff, IL, and her granddaughters Catherine, Avery and Samantha Morris.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace in Red Bank. There will be a service on Saturday at 2 pm at the Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in Jean’s name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, or a charity close to your heart.
