Tribute

Jane Tolley Harper died peacefully on December 20th, surrounded by her children. She was 93 and preceded in death by her parents Robert Lee Tolley Sr. and Sadie Evans Tolley and brother Robert Lee Tolley Jr. and devoted husband of 67 years, Jerry Warren Harper Sr. who passed away just last year. She leaves an indelible mark on her cherished survivors: children, Mary Bach (Jim), Peggy Myers (John), Jerry Harper Jr. (Jeannie), Lee Tolley Harper Sr. (Jane), and Tommy Harper; grandchildren, Jamie Bach (Courtney), Christopher Bach (Christina), Kate Myers, Evan Myers (Hannah), Lee Harper Jr. (Amber), Natalie Harper, Dan Harper and great-grandchildren Sadie and Will Myers. Jane was an inspiring, creative and entrepreneurial woman who raised a big family in a loving, fun and caring household. She graduated from Girls Preparatory School, University of Chattanooga, and the Traphagen School of Design in New York City. She was a gifted designer with a tasteful eye for children’s clothing via her company “It’s a Lulu” and later as a licensed Interior Designer with Jane Harper Interiors, Inc. She also enjoyed helping friends and family bring art and function to their homes and lives. Jane was involved with the community, as a board member of the Cotton Ball Association, a Stephen Minister at St. Paul’s and a volunteer at the Chattanooga Community Kitchen. Even with a busy life, Jane and her husband, Jerry, always had time to serve hearty meals complete with fun and laughter for all. Holidays were brightened by her smile, great nature and creativity. She never tried to be a role model, but one could learn a lot about living, having a marriage, raising kids, making a living, building friendships, or aging gracefully by knowing Jane. She was a positive force on this earth and will be missed. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on December 30, at 2:00 PM with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. The family thanks her dear caregivers and Hospice of Chattanooga staff. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 305 West 7th St. Chattanooga, TN. 37402 or Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Dr. Chattanooga, TN. 37416. Arrangements entrusted to Lane Funeral Home – 601 Ashland Terrace Chattanooga, Tennessee 37415. (423) 877-3524 Lanefh.com
