Joan Marie (Horutz) Forkner passed away on July 22, 2019 at her home in Signal Mountain, Tennessee at the age of 73.
Joan is survived by her husband Samuel L. Forkner, her children Kathy McCormack and Michael (Kelli) Wood, her grandchildren Hogan McCormack, Dana McCormack, and Thora Wood, sister Patricia (Bob) Draper, nieces Nanette Henderson and Rosemary Phillips, and nephews Joseph Chehoski, Michael Chehoski, and David Draper. She is preceded in death by her sister Florence Meyers, brother Joseph Chehoski, and nieces Judy Berman and Ann Kaeder.
Joan was born on September 18, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Michael and Anna (Domowitch) Horutz. She graduated from Brooklyn Polytech in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and earned her Master of Science in Engineering Management from Georgia Tech in 1979. During her career she worked at General Electric and spent many years working at TVA. She was a member of IEEE and chair of the photovoltaics group from 1983-1988.
Her family remembers her as being someone who was always caring, positive, adventurous, and fun-loving while wearing many hats as a mom, wife, and engineering manager.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, August 3 at 2:30p.m. at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Signal Mountain, TN.
