Irene Humberd Patching, age 97, of Signal Mountain, TN passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Patching, Jr.; parents, John Willis and Fannie Hughes Humberd; brother, Milton Humberd; and sisters, Dorothy Baker, Mildred Ball, Edna Ruth Cleveland, Jo Ann Humberd and Joy McGroom. She is survived by her two sons, James E. Patching III of Chattanooga, TN and David S. Patching of Huntsville, AL.
Mrs. Patching grew up in Bradley County, TN and graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1944. After graduating, she taught home economics for several years at Bradley High School, Cleveland, TN. Marrying James E. in 1949 she moved to Nashville, TN to raise a family. While in Nashville, she was an active member of the Andrew Price Memorial United Methodist Church in Donelson and worked in the community as an aide at a local child development center. After moving to and living in Atlanta with her husband, she later returned to Tennessee to be closer to her children, taking up residence on Signal Mountain, TN at Alexian Village.
The family would like to thank the staff at Alexian for the care and compassion shown to her during her stay.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 11:00 am central time at Hermitage Funeral Home with burial to follow in Hermitage Memorial Gardens, 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN 37138.
