Tribute

Hermena D. Litton, 91, of Chattanooga, passed away March 7, 2021. Hermena and Billy J. Litton were married for 56 years. They had two children, John T. Litton of Ft. Worth, TX and his life partner Beth Culpepper Brown of Kansas City, MO, Marilyn Litton Parrett (a CJR member) of Louisville, KY; two grandchildren, Jonathan Parrett of Chicago, IL and Zachary Parrett of Detroit, MI. She attended college at Carson Newman College and UTK, where she was a charter member of Delta Gamma Sorority and received her pilot’s license as a freshman. She received her degree in education, taught school for two years and was a substitute teacher for many years. The rest of her time was spent volunteering. A few of her many accomplishments: She worked with United Way for 30 years, serving on various committees and fund raising; served on the board of Pro Re Bona Daycare and Nursery for 30 years and was instrumental in building a new center; Chattanooga City Panhellenic Association, receiving the Outstanding Member Award and serving as President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer; Jr. Kosmos Women’s Club, receiving the Outstanding Member Award and serving as 1st Assistant Director; North Chattanooga Book Club as President, Vice President and Secretary; Hamilton County Pachyderm Club, recently serving as secretary; Sunday School Teacher at Brainerd Baptist, First Baptist Downtown and Red Bank Baptist Churches. Hermena joined CJR Chapter in February 1971. For 41 years, she has consistently held an office in DAR. These are but a few of her many DAR accomplishments: Regent, 1st Vice Regent, 2nd Vice Regent, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Executive Officer, Parliamentarian, NSDAR Speaker Staff, Vice Chr., State Chr. Americanism, State Speakers Staff, Cherokee District Director, Chatt Area Past Regents Club (President, Secretary, Treasurer) Membership Chr., State Corresponding Secretary, State Officers Club, VP and Secretary, State Timekeeper, President Chatt Regents Council, Citizenship Chairman, Units Overseas Chr. Hermena Litton has been and always will be a valued member of the Chief John Ross Chapter of the DAR. She dedicated her life to family, community and the betterment of children and their mothers. Visitation will be held Saturday March 13, 2021 from 10-11AM with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11:00 AM in the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.
