Henry Kenneth “Ken” Willis passed away at the age of 78 on August 7, 2021 in Chattanooga, TN. Ken was born to Joe and Margaret Adams Willis on November 11, 1942 (Veterans Day) in Butler, GA. He attended Manchester High School (Class of 1960), moved to Atlanta in 1962. In Warm Springs, GA, he met his wife, Joanne Margaret O’Brien. They were Married in 1967 and lived in the Atlanta Area for 48 years. Ken and wife of 54 years retired to Alexian Village of Signal Mountain, TN (2015). Ken started working at Atlanta Federal Savings and Loan in the mail room (1962) while attending night school at Georgia State University (Class of 1970). He retired as Assistant Vice President after forty years with Georgia Federal Bank. His next ten years were spent working in non-profit serving people with disabilities and assistive technology. Ken served during the Vietnam War in the Air Force (1968). He volunteered for many years with The Optimist Club, the Boy Scouts, and the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic games. Ken was an avid tennis player finishing 4th in the state of Georgia in 1960 and continued playing tennis and ping pong for most of his life. He became an Auburn Fan in 1957 after his first cousin (Billy) took him to an Auburn Football game. He had season tickets for over 50 years. The Willis Family all have fond memories of time spent with him talking football, attending home games and traveling throughout the country to away games. Ken and Joanne enjoyed traveling, following their son’s Paralympic Sports Career. (1991Assen, Netherlands, 1992 Barcelona, Spain, 1996 Atlanta, and 2000 Sidney, Australia). Ken enjoyed playing Ping Pong and Bridge. He led Duplicate Bridge and the Wednesday Beginners Bridge. He was known for his “No Trump Hand”. He enjoyed a myriad of activities (wearing orange and blue) offered by Alexian Village. Ken was loved and considered a kind man. He never spoke ill of others, always had a smile and compassion for others. Ken is survived by his loving wife, Joanne, daughter, Karen, sons, James and Tim, grandchildren, Chris (Holly) Brewer and Grace Rollins, and 2 great-grandchildren, Willem and Micah. Ken always loved his family dearly and took care of all of us. Ken would say “It’s time to go” WAR EAGLE! A Funeral Mass for the immediate family will be held at Alexian Village St. Augustine Chapel Tuesday, August 17, 2021.
