Doris Marie Dodd, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 30th 2017. She was born on May 30, 1928. Doris grew up in the Lewis Chapel Community, later moving to Hixson, TN. This is where she met the Love of her life, Burton Dodd. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church for 57 yrs. With the last 7 years attending Calvary Baptist Church. She started her sewing career at The Chattanooga Casket Co. before becoming the neighborhood seamstress.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband Burton of 61 years; son, Garry Dodd; parents, Pete and Mae Lewis; 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
Survivors include daughter, Karen D. Shelton[Mike]; 2 grandchildren, Josh [Amber] Shelton and Jessica [Jordan] Gault; greatgrandchildren, Landon, Logan, Coby Shelton, and one on the way, Graham and Hudson Gault all from Hixson. Brother Garnett and several nieces and nephews. All were the joy of her life. Doris enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren, never to miss any event they were involved in, spending many nights at gospel singings and sewing for anyone that needed anything from a dress made to a broken zipper.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11am in the chapel of Lane Funeral Home with Pastor Dwight Martin officiating. Interment will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson, TN. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8pm at the funeral home. Special thanks to the Staff of Memorial Hospital Oncology Unit as well as close friends, Jo Thompson and Gladys Skelton.
