David Nash Bean

November 30, 1946 ~ April 2, 2018 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Tribute

David Nash Bean passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018. He was born on November 30, 1946 to his parents Crawford and Eloise Bean.

He graduated from Mountain Creek School, Sewanee Military Academy and attended Middle Tennessee State University. In 1977, he graduated from UTC with a B.S. in Business Engineering.

He was originally employed by the Tennessee Department of Human Services where he was an eligibility counselor with the food stamp program. He later transferred to the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation where he worked for the Services for the Blind. He recruited new places and designed stands for the visually handicapped thereby giving them the dignity of work. Many of the visually impaired kept in touch with him through the years. With his caring spirit, David volunteered for many years at the St. Barnabas Nursing Home.

David later worked for Central Parking and with his personality and sense of humor he met many new friends. He loved the subjects of science and outer space. He also loved to discuss politics and could debate with the best.

David's faith was very important to him. He was a true Christian believer and loved to witness to others. For many years he was a member of the St. Peter's Episcopal Church. He was one of the first Acolytes there as his mother Eloise was a founding member of the Church, thereby making him a founding member as well. Later on through family ties, he attended Hixson First Baptist, Abba's House and Red Bank Baptist Church.

In younger years, David loved to play golf. He also enjoyed watching sports and taking family trips. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. David was always devoted to his children and grandchildren.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Crawford and Eloise Bean; brother, Martin Bean; and grandson, David “Trae” Nash Bean, III.

He is survived by his children, Laura Bean and Nash Bean (Chastity) from his first marriage to Sybil Partin; his son Simon Bean (Sherry) and step daughter Sandy Payne (Ben) from his second marriage to Phyllis Sylar; brothers, Crawford Bean, Jr. (Toni) and Russell Bean; grandchildren, Farrah Bean, Tristan Bean, Nick Bean, Tim Bean, Cameron Bean, Evan Bean, Tyler Cannon, Ellie Bean, Elijah Bean, Grayson Payne, Spencer Payne and Lindsay Payne; great grandchild, Emmett Cannon; and nieces and nephews, Sharon Thomas, John Bean, Russ Bean, Chris Bean and Hollie Gilreath.

Due to David's failing health in recent years, the family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, caregivers and staff at all of the various facilities that he received care from.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 5 - 8 p.m. and Friday, April 6, 2018 from 10 - 11 a.m. at Lane Funeral Home.

The services will be held 11:00 am on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Lane Funeral Home and will be officiated by Dr. Fred Steelman.
