Curtis Webb Caine, Sr, M.D., 97 years young, of Jackson, MS, stepped peacefully into Eternity, face to face with Jesus, his Savior and Lord, on Tuesday January 1, 2019, in Chattanooga, TN, after ringing in the New Year with black-eyed peas! Dr. Caine was born in New Orleans on October 13, 1921, son of the late Ansel and Pearl Caine. He met the love of his life, Evelyn Lucille Johnson in New Orleans at the tender age of 17. The stories of their whirlwind romance are legendary, and they married “on the sly” in 1940; together for 69 years. He graduated from Tulane University and Tulane Medical School. He was honored to serve in the Navy during WWII in New York and Virginia. After the war, he started his practice in Jackson, MS, as the first anesthesiologist in Mississippi, where he practiced for 60 years. He was an active member and deacon of First Baptist Church Jackson until he moved to Chattanooga to be with his daughter, Carol, in 2012. He became a spirited congregant of Redbank Baptist Church in Chattanooga, where he continued to encourage the body of Christ. Dr. Caine is known for his faith and devotion to his Lord Jesus Christ, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passion in all things medical, love for America and the Constitution, love of flying, and his adventurous life. He led and served in numerous professional and patriotic organizations. He will be remembered for his dry humor, his embellished stories, his heartfelt counsel, his love for any debate, and singing hymns with tears or little “ditties” with a twinkle in his eye. Dr. Caine is preceded in death by his wife, Lynn Johnson Caine; his five siblings; his children, Gertie Pearl Caine, Curtis Caine, Jr, and Gary Caine; and his grandchild Curtis Caine, III. He is survived by his children, Edsel (Joan) Caine and Carol Caine Guess; grandchildren, Michael Caine, David Caine, Jason Caine, Brandon Caine, Jordon Caine, Hannah Campbell, Becca Susong, and Debra Klein; and 16 great grandchildren. Visitation: Friday, January 4, 2019, 5-7 pm, Wright & Ferguson, Flowood, MS. Service: Saturday, January 5, 11 am, First Baptist Church Jackson, Sanctuary, with visitation 10 to 11. Graveside: Lakewood Memorial Cemetery, Jackson, MS following the service. And in Chattanooga: Memorial/Celebration: Saturday, January 12, 10 am, Red Bank Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute a memorial to First Baptist Church Jackson or Redbank Baptist Church, Chattanooga.
