Bert Heard

On Thursday, July 25, 2019, Bert Lane Heard, loving husband, devoted family man and friend to so many, peacefully passed away at home with his loving wife by his side at the age of 88.
Bert was born October 13, 1930 in Ider, AL. As a young adult, he moved to Red Bank, TN where he worked and retired from DuPont after 31 years. On December 17, 1954 he married Mary King Heard. They had no children, but treated so many lovingly, as their very own.
Bert loved gardening and growing flowers. He and Mary spent their days working hard caring for their plants and enjoying their greenhouse. They appreciated what nature offered and always shared it with others. He loved his family, always helping them to grow, like the plants he cultivated. But, his greatest cultivation, was the love for his wife, Mary, who he devoted 65 years of marriage to.
Bert was preceded in death by his father William and mother, Pearl, sisters, Janice, Tince, and brothers, Wayne, Dub. He is survived by his wife, Mary, brother, Ralph and sisters, Joan, Frankie, as well as several special nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 29, 2019 at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace at 2 O’ clock p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society for research.
A visitation will be held Sunday, July 28, 2019 from 5-8 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home.
Entombment will take place following the service at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Memorial Hospital on one south, especially Jennifer, the charge nurse and Joel. Dr. Gilbert and Dr. Chang, The Red Bank Fire Dept., Hospice of Chattanooga, Kara Brant and Tonya Phillips.
