Alice Lee Sallee passed from this life to be with the Lord on November 16, 2023, less than a month from what would have been her 96th birthday. She was the third of six children born to the marriage of Georgia Gordon Lynch and William Henry Lynch. Alice grew up in Rocky Face, GA, and moved to Chattanooga after her first marriage.
She was employed at Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute for most of her career and retired from there after many years. She always made time to attend the various events and performances of her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Alice was pre-deceased by her husband C.D. Sallee, Jr., his son Steve Sallee; her first husband Lynn Gross (the father of their sons Jerry Gross and Steve Gross). In her early eighties Alice met Gene Garner with whom she shared many interests. They seemed “made for each other.” Their happiness got cut short by Gene’s passing from cancer less than three years after their meeting.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry Gross, Sr. (Glenda) and Steve Gross (Mary); stepson, Jack Sallee; her grandchildren: Jerry Lee Gross, Jr. (Cassandra), Carrie Weaver (Derrick), Amy Bee (Danny), Alex Bowman (Nick), Shelley Sallee (Wallace Goodman), Sam Sallee (Brinna), and Patrick Sallee (Mandy). Great-grandchildren include: Savannah Gross, Bradley Bee, Siddalee Gross, Jackson Weaver, Jenna Weaver, Moses Betro, and Parker Bowman.
Alice is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including Donna McClure Cates of Destin, FL, with whom she maintained a close relationship. Her best friend of almost 90 years, Eva Barker, of St. Petersburg, FL, also survives her.
Special thanks to Alice’s wonderful neighbors for their prayers and for providing gifts of food for her and her caregivers multiple times.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hixson United Methodist Church or the Chattanooga Humane Educational Society.
Funeral service will be Tuesday November 21, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at the Coulter Chapel of the Lane Funeral Home with Judge Clarence Shattuck officiating. Entombment will follow in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
