On behalf of Bill Kennedy who preceded Rod to heaven, I pray that both of them are having a wonderful reunion. Undoubtedly, Rod changed the course of many a life with his wisdom and counsel, but no one more than Bill's. I am so very grateful I got to meet Rod through Bill's many stories and then in person. May he rest in peace in the arms of the angels.

It was said, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall see God". Surely Rod is sitting at God's right hand with the likes of Lincoln, Gandhi, JFK, and Dr. King. Rod's lifesaving efforts are measured in generations of survivors who owe their and their children's lives to his patience, expertise, skill, and understanding of the human condition. Rocco, give a shout to Vinnie and Coco, and keep me a place at the table, I'll be along soon as the job's done. So Long, old buddy.

Rod was a great friend to those he loved. He will be fondly remembered by those whose lives he touched intimately. I always enjoyed our conversations and appreciate the contributions he made to the science and art of hostage negotiations in particular. Sincere condolences to you Melanie and Rod's family.

When Jack and I first met it was a given that "W.G." had to voice his approval for me to be with his best friend. I must have somehow won him over as he stood with us as Jack's Best Man when we were married. He was never without a joke or a word of sage advice! Thank-you Rod for accepting me and always reminding Jack and I to do things fun and LIVE every day of our lives! We love and miss you and we will see you again in the "sweet bye and bye".
"Mindy", (Melinda) Braunstein

Oh my goodness - a true friend and great professor has left our planet. I met Rod in the mid 80's while completing my masters in community mental health. It was simply frightening how well we got along --- partly because of all of our life experiences. We had both been in the military as police. We both taught scuba diving. We both had lived in Europe. ETC. He met my wife and my two daughters and became a friend more than my major professor. We had SO many wonderful times together (some that will not ever leave these lips!!!) Even when we moved out of town, Rod kept up with us and was always just a phone all away. A friend got attacked one night, and Rod was the first person contacted -- he dropped what he was doing and was with us in the ER 10 minutes later ----- I have countless stories about this man and his wonderful impact on so many peoples lives. To Melanie, family members and friends a piece of us is now broken with Rod's passing.
