Virginia Nelson Spears, of Chattanooga, TN passed away on Friday November 24, 2017.
She was born on December 4, 1932 in Orlando, Florida to Wickcliffe and Virginia Nelson.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Brown Spears Jr. of Chattanooga, TN; her parents, Wickcliffe and Virginia Nelson of Winter Park, Florida; and her sister, June Nelson.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Spears; and her son Wickcliffe Spears (Becca) and his children: Alex Spears, Tatum Spears and Strauder Spears; and her four nieces and nephews.
Mom was known as "Ginger "to her many friends. She graduated Rollins College in Winter Park Florida in 1955 where she majored in theater arts. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority and was president of the Panhellenic Council as well as being on the Library committee and an Animated Magazine Usher. She also worked at Bonnie Jeans dress shop in Winter Park. She loved flowers and roses were her favorites. She loved animals, cooking, art, antiques and decorating. Whenever we moved she loved having a new place to decorate, like an artist with a blank canvas. She had a wonderful head for business and had her own business called "Gingers Gems" at The Armoire, run by her dear friends Anne Boyd and Virginia Cory , where she designed unique pieces of jewelry. She ran the Hunter Museum gift shop for over 10 years as a volunteer. She was well loved and will be greatly missed.
Funeral Services will be Thursday at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church on McCallie Ave. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church. A private graveside service will follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park.
