Sally Marie Searcy
Chattanooga - Sally Searcy passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018. She was born October 12, 1944 in Qunicy, Massachusettes and grew up in Winterport, Maine. She graduated from Winterport High School in 1962 and went on to attend business school. She worked as an office assistant at Mt. Vernon Restaurant in Chattanooga for many years and later as a pharmacy technician with Bi-Lo Food Store and Alexian Brothers on Signal Mountain.
Because of her sweet smile and manner, her family and friends nicknamed her “Sugar”. Later, when life led her to new places, it was this same quality that made it seem as if she’d never met a stranger – only long-lost friends who lived far afield.
Her hobbies held the common thread of nurture; tending to green things, keeping small aquariums with colorful populations, caring for animals from dogs to stray kittens to horses. She read biographies of historical women, but also delighted in horror stories. She made certain her daughters had fresh stacks of books from the local library twice monthly. She loved scenic drives and road trips, traveling both near and far with her husband, John. Her joy was her family and her vice was chocolate-covered cherries.
She is survived by her husband, John Searcy, Jr.; daughters, Patricia (David) Reed of Tucson, Arizona, Jennifer (John) Langworthy of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; granddaughters Emma and Audrey Langworthy; brother, Richard (Pauline) Neville of Bangor, Maine. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry P. and Adria E. Neville, Winterport, Maine; brother, Robert Neville, Monroe, Maine.
The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, February 15 from 6-8 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace. There will be a private ceremony for family at Chattanooga National Military Cemetery.
The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Alexian Brothers Valley Residence and Hearth Hospice for their constant care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
