James Edward Patton, age 87, passed away October 28, 2017 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Jim was born on December 27, 1929 in Cumberland, Kentucky to James and Berta Patton. After moving to Chattanooga as a young adult, he married Betty Jean Slaten and began working at DuPont. He retired from DuPont after more than 30 years of work. Jim was known in his community for his many years of service to the Red Bank Dixie Youth Program. He was known most for his generous spirit and his selfless heart. His life was marked by his service to others, and most importantly, to his family. He is proceeded in death by parents James and Berta Patton, and wife Betty Jean Patton. He is survived by siblings Clara Massman and Leon Patton; Son Jim Patton Jr and daughter- in-law Robin Patton, daughter Joy Patton, son Scott Patton and daughter-in-law Susan Patton. He is also survived by grandchildren Jim Patton lll, Haley Dadd, Matthew Patton, Lindsey Mingie, Jon Patton and Emily Patton; also great- grandchildren Charlie Jean Mingie and Samson Hendrick Dadd. The family will receive friends at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Sunday, November 5 from 4-7 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga.
