Welcome to the memorial page for

Elnora Annie Beene

May 5, 1929 ~ October 20, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old
Elnora Cunningham Beene age 88 , in the hands of family, passed from this life into the hands of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit on October 20, 2017. Her husband Woody was surely waiting to greet her at the gates of Heaven with his big loving smile. His Ellie was finally home.
Mom was born in Chattanooga on May 5, 1929 to Sanford A Cunningham, Sr and Cora Elizabeth Cunningham. She had a memorable childhood surrounded by a large loving family of two brothers and five sisters. She loved sharing childhood memories and fondly recalled the warmth, love, and sometimes humorous experiences that only a large family can provide.
Mom was a graduate of Central High School where she met our Dad, Melvin Woody Beene. She loved recalling the way Dad flirted with her and told her he loved her from the moment they met. He told her he was gonna marry her.
It turned out he was right. Fifty-three years right, till death did them part.
They were a beautiful couple, she Hollywood pretty and he handsome. She had beautiful blonde hair and the bluest of eyes.
In 1947 Mom and Dad were married in Chattanooga. In 1948 Mom and Dad were blessed with their first son Gary Duane Beene, in 1955 Daniel Mitchell Beene, and in 1963 Kevin Lee Beene. Needless to say, Mom had her hands full with a house full of boys. Mom and Dad moved to Signal Mountain in 1957 which provided a wonderful environment in which to raise their boys. Mom wanted to afford her boys a McCallie School education for which we are forever grateful.
More than anything though Mom loved her savior Jesus Christ. She would joyfully share his love with others. Thru the joys and trials of life she never wavered from her faith nor its source of strength. She was much stronger than her petite stature suggested, a strength to be dealt with thanks to her Scots- Irish determination. She was a Cunningham till her dying day.
Mom was preceded in death by her loving husband Melvin Woody Beene, parents Sanford and Cora Cunningham, brothers Lawrence and Sanford “Bud” Cunningham, Jr, sisters Ailene Elrod, Bernice Barlew and her son Kevin Lee Beene.
She is survived by sons Gary (Sharon) Beene, D. Mitchell (Robyn) Beene, sisters Leona Culpepper, Geneva (Jack) Hughes, Margie (Charles) Cheatham, nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Saturday October 28 from 1 to 2:30 at Coulter Chapel Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace.
There will be a private family graveside service afterwards at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. She will be laid to rest in anticipation of the resurrection beside her husband.
Special love goes out to the Brothers and staff at Alexian Brothers and the nurses and caregivers at Red Bank Life Care.
Flowers are welcome or contributions in memory of Mom may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association , Chattanooga Community Kitchen or Young Life.
